Validation

The aim of thematic validation process was to verify correspondence of change products to satellite images with higher spatial resolution (Google Earth VHR imagery). Plausibility checks were carried out by interpreters with extensive experience with land cover / land use interpretation and quality control products.

The validation method was based on combination of standard validation processes and statistical principles normally used for evaluating of detected results in non-geographical fields.

The validation of the change products was limited by the availability of the reference data. Due to this reason change products were not always validated in the full AOI extent and for each year.

The results of the thematic validation is summarised in the following tables.
